Karachi: Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmad slammed Mayor Karachi and asked him to “Go Home” if he doesn’t have the authorities. He passed these remarks while listening to a case regarding deaths by huge Billboards.
Headed by the Chief Justice, a bench was hearing cases regarding illegal constructions and slumping of massive billboards on the citizens. CJ Gulzar Ahmed said that there is nothing as LAW in Sindh.
“Who permits advisers to install these billboards?” Chief Justice asked. The Senior superintentend of Police (South) said that they had logded a complaint against two suspects and they were looking for them.
“Have you looked for them in the sea? Are you sure they hasn’t been swept away? Asked Justice Gulzar. “Don’t talk stupid here. Wherever they are, please someone bring them to court”
“There is no governance in this city. Numerous billboards are placed on the residential buildings and no one is there to take notice. Even the windows of the buildings are getting covered by the billboards. I wonder how the residents must be living there” Chief Justice bashed the authorities.
Mayor Karachi, Waseem Akhtar was also present at the court. “The mayor says that he lacks authority, if this is the case why don’t you just go home?” CJ remarked, pointing at the mayor.
CJ questioned Mayor Karachi, Waseem Akhtar about the expiration of his term of service, to which he replied that he would retire on 28th August 2020. “Spare us and leave. The Mayors of Karachi appears to have enmity towards the city. There is nobody to build the Karachi. People come and fill their pockets. Nobody does anything for the Megapolis” CJP remarked.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan was equally critical of the Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, and the members of his cabinet for just roaming around and making emergency visits around the city in their luxurious vehicles, instead of solving issues.
“Look at the ministers; they roam around in their luxurious vehicles, CM Sindh uses helicopter for paying visits while kids here are drowning in the sewerage water, who is responsible for this?”
The top judge also expressed his anger over the performance of K-Electric.” At least 10 people die after being electrocuted every day”. CJP remarked.
He asked to register a case against the CEO and place the names of all people on the management board on the ECL. Senior KE Officers have been summoned at the next hearing.
