The Ministry of Climate Change has established the first Wildlife Information Centre (WIC) at Balakot in Mansehra district in collaboration with KPK forest and Wildlife department and the UN Development Programme Funded Sustainable Forest Management project.
Muhammad Omer, the official from the Forest Department shared that the purpose behind established the information centre was to focus on several sub sectors of forest and wildlife, which include forest biology, wildlife, forest economics, fisheries and watershed management, forest carbon sequestration measurements, human-wildlife conflicts and human-forest socio-economic relationship.
Omer informed that Pakistan is country which holds rich and diverse flora and fauna in a wide range of habitats from sea level to high elevation areas in the mountains, including around 177 mammal and 660 bird species.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM), Malik Amin Aslam also inaugurated the Wildlife and Forestry Research and Monitoring Centre at Nadi Bangla forest area, a picturesque tourist resort in Balakot town of Mansehra district, the climate change ministry tweeted.

Governor Punjab, Mohammad Sarwar, while appreciating the development of research centre wrote in a tweet, “Developing protective areas such as national parks/forests is key for protecting animals in their natural habitat. Appreciate Malik Amin (for) inaugurating Wildlife & Forestry research/monitoring Centre, an only institute of its kind in Balakot to protect forests/wildlife”.
