134 0

The ongoing legal tussle between American blogger Cynthia Ritchie and Senator Rehman Malik has ended.

According to the details, the parties have filed petitions to withdraw the cases against each other. The lawyers of Cynthia Ritchie and Rehman Malik filed the petitions in the Islamabad High Court.

According to Imran Feroze, the lawyer of the female blogger, his client Cynthia Richie has directed to withdraw the application to register a case against Rehman Malik, while on the other hand, Rehman Malik has also requested to withdraw the application for registration of a case against Cynthia de Richie. ۔ Cynthia Richie and Rehman Malik’s miscellaneous petitions will be heard in the Islamabad High Court on Thursday.

It may be recalled that in June last year, Cynthia de Richie, an American woman blogger, had accused former Home Minister Senator Rehman Malik of harassing and abusing her on social media. Later, a legal battle broke out between the two.

Cynthia Richie also filed petitions against PPP leaders Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The female blogger also levelled serious allegations against former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. However, none of these allegations have been substantiated in any court.

Cynthia Richie tweets controversy

It should be noted that blogger Cynthia Ritchie had tweeted about former Prime Minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on which PPP leaders had sharply criticized her.

Waqas Abbasi had lodged a complaint against her while PPP district president Raja Shakeel Abbasi had approached the FIA for registration of the case.

The petition said that Cynthia allegedly tried to defame PPP chairperson and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on social media.

However, the FIA objected to the filing of an FIR in the case, claiming that the petitioner has no right to be a complainant while interfering in the matter under the provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PICA) 2016.

The act further states that in such a case, an affected person or his / her guardian in case of juvenile delinquency may apply to the FIA for removal, deletion or withholding of such information.

The FIA said that reading the law reveals that only the real victim or his guardians can file a complaint.

Therefore, Shakeel Abbasi had filed a petition in the District and Sessions Judge’s Court on the non-registration of the case by the FIA, on which notice was also issued to the FIA.

After which Raja Shakeel Abbasi had filed a petition before Additional District and Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani under Section 22A of the Criminal Procedure Code in which a lawsuit was filed against her.

Therefore, on June 15, Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Jahangir Awan directed the FIA to register a case against Cynthia Richie on a petition filed by PPP leader Raja Shakeel Abbasi.

The blogger had approached the Islamabad High Court seeking a stay on the proceedings against her, but the court rejected her application.
