The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has identified 15 historical sites for restoration including the ancestral homes of legendary Bollywood actors Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar.
Dilip Kumar’s residence is located in Mohalla Khudadad near the historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar. It was declared protected heritage by the Directorate of Archaeology and Tourism, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in 2013 and later a protected monument, under the Antiquity Act 1997.
The Raj Kapoor Haveli in Mohallah Dhaki Munawar Shah is located inside the Peshawar walled city. As per published reports, in 2012 the then government announced to convert this house into a museum but despite passage of eight years, the historical homes of the Bollywood stars are in the same condition.
Now KP’s Archaeology Department’s in forwarded recommendations to the Chief Minister, Mahmood Khan The Directorate of Archaeology and Tourism has decided to buy the buildings and start the renovation work.
According to Express Tribune, Directorate of Archaeology Director, Dr Abdul Samad said the two houses although owned privately hold great historic value and now the KP government has decided to preserve them.
The Directorate of Archaeology has allocated over PKR50 million for the repair and restoration of 13 historic buildings other than these two historical sites.
