Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday called for a change of course in current COVID-19 vaccination strategies, urging that vaccines must be treated as a global public good to ensure they are made equitably available in all countries, and not only to those who bid the highest for them.
According to the details, Prime Minister Imran Khan was addressing D-8 summit virtually. Imran Khan said that the novel coronavirus has left millions around the world in debt, the dread virus has damaged the world economy.
Prime Minister Imran Khan while urging D-8 members to play their role in making coronavirus vaccine a global public good, said that the developed countries should show more solidarity and contribute to funding the third world states who are already going through severe crisis due to the pandemic.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the developed countries must share their technologies with the developing states as it will help them in getting rid of worsening health crisis.
Imran Khan while highlighting the need of mobilizing finances to over health crisis, said that youth promotion strategies are the need of time to enhance skills in younger generation as they are the pillars of any state.
Prime Minister said that, ‘Technological development is a gateway to prosperity,’ adding that ‘Knowledge based economies never face defeat, that is why the government of Pakistan is focusing more of digitalization.’
Prime Minister Imran Khan also called for the global cooperation across all different sectors working on COVID-19 to share the benefits of research; the trust in science and healthcare authorities; the indispensable need for dialogue between science, ethics, politics and civil society.
‘Promoting food security is must,’ said the Prime Minister, adding that, ‘holding joint sporting events will provide a better platform to enhance relations between the D-8 members.’
Imran Khan also emphasized on the need of business partnerships among the D-8 members, terming it ‘essential’ for building a stronger economy.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also highlighted the importance of eliminating illicit financial flows as it is a major threat for the developing states on the road towards their success.
