On Thursday, Sindh High Court (SHC) granted bail to Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh in two cases of terrorism and rioting.

According to the details, Sindh High Court ordered the accused to deposit surety bonds of Rs. two lac for each case. The two cases related to the attack on police and interference in government duties and disruption.

It is worth mentioning that Sindh High Court had on March 13 issued notices to the Prosecutor General Sindh and others to file their comments on the bail petition of Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly in two cases.

During the hearing, his lawyer alleged that his client was booked in the cases on the directives of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, adding he was subjected to rancorous action on being nominated as the opposition leader. The opposition leader approached the SHC after an anti-terrorism court had rejected his bail pleas.

On February 16, 2021, Karachi police had arrested Haleem Adil Sheikh for disturbing the peace and voting process in PS-88 by-election.

Four cases under terrorism sections were lodged against him for interference in official affairs, insurrection and aerial firing.

A case registered against Haleem Adil Sheikh at Memon Goth police station for disrupting an anti-encroachment drive carried out at his farmhouse on February 6.

The leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh had also claimed that he killed a poisonous snake that appeared inside the prison where he is being kept on the orders on the court.
